龜仔

Hey all,

I was going to write something deep and meaningful, as my trip has been abundantly blessed with such discussions. I wanted to get it out of my head and sort it out, but I'm feeling rather sick right now (the aches are starting up...) and I just need to get the ball rolling in some way after my lack of blogging in Hong Kong.

I have a new tea mascot! One I can pour water and tea on, and eventually develop a nice patina/sheen on it.

So I have a rabbit, a whale, a shark, a dragon (A little Charizard; many thanks to Yorumichii) and of course many incarnations of my favourite animal from my dear friends over the years. And now I have a turtle!

I kind of wish the turtle had a protruding tail, but it's still very cute. I think I will name it 龜仔 (Little Turtle).

Ahh!!
Luck (福) written all over its shell

I also took the opportunity to use up my last hours in Hong Kong engaging in one of my favourite activities: Looking around in tea stores! I even found a lovely yixing teapot to take home with the turtle from Fook Ming Tong. Well the pot came first, then I asked if they sold mascots.

If you ever go to Hong Kong, I suggest looking for Fook Ming Tong or The Best Tea House. I went to the ones in Kowloon Tong and Tai Koo, respectively. And maybe go to Tea Art Gallery in East Tsim Sha Tsui... But if there is a fat woman sitting there instead of the nice younger lady, run unless you're a local. I almost got pushed into a bad deal by that one... The one who normally runs the place is much nicer if you sit down and have a chat with her. It must get really boring in there.
