I've just found this really sweet and quirky song today :) - Give it a listen first!
Weirdly enough, I've found this song exactly on its third anniversary, so that's kind of cool? XD
I think, especially in the US, Christmas has kind of lost its spirit. Or rather, the Americans abandoned it. Those Black Fridays every year are really freaky. And it's definitely very indicative of the shift in the culture, and that may be the case even all around the world. Well, that's just what I'm guessing. Christmas was never a big thing in my family, and we don't really celebrate it these days (besides having dinner somewhere).
But I've never really been a gift person. I mean, a person who's good with (conventional) gifts and gifting, etc. Yeah. I think that's partly due to my lack of practice in all my years so far! As a result I've had to get really creative with my gifts for my closest friends on any occasion... Otherwise, group gifts are awesome and that saves me a lot of trouble :P
At least for me, I would be so happy just spending some of my Christmas days with friends. No gifts, no pressure. My ideal Christmas would be... Having my friends come over to my place for the day, cooking up a hearty feast, sip some ice chocolate (not hot cocoa, because Australian Christmas is laaame like that) and just have fun. I feel like that's the real spirit of Christmas. Spending time with the people you care about the most, and making happy memories.
...But that's a pipe dream since most of my friends live on the other side of Sydney... So instead I'll just settle for taking the long trek to meet with them. It's almost the same thing :)
